GOOD READS: Green Lights

Turn your red and yellow lights to green!

Seeing the cover of the book ‘Greenlights’ — a memoir by Matthew McConaughey — I just had to read it. The actor had previously caught my eye in the chick flick with the gorgeous Kate Hudson — ‘How to lose a guy in 10 days’. A simple and sweet film where he effortlessly made all our hearts flutter. But, when the book came in from Amazon, I realised that McConaughey was now 50 plus and not quite the poster boy we saw in the film. In fact, the cover of the book did not have his poster boy image, instead it was in all honesty – McConaughey in an older philosophical pose.

Through the book, the Academy Award–winning actor’s unflinching honesty, unconventional wisdom and lessons learned the hard way about living comfortably with what you’ve got made for a riveting read.

He kept diaries of his life where he made notes about his successes and failures, joys, and sorrows and how to have less stress in his life. Then, gathering up all these diaries, he took off to the desert and compiled all those memories into this book.

His unique guide to finding one’s meaning in life. As he says: “It’s also a guide to catching more greenlights, and to realizing that the yellows and reds eventually do turn green too.”

Named No#1 Best Seller by the New York Times, and one of the best books of the year by the Guardian – to put it in his words – “It’s a love letter. To life.”
